The Township of Terrace Bay Council held its regular meeting on March 16, 2026, to finalize the municipal budget and review several operational reports. Following the adoption of the agenda and previous minutes, the Council received a presentation from Patrick Couture of OCWA regarding the 2025 water system summary. The report confirmed that the township’s drinking water was free of biological contamination and generally met safety standards. While one lead exceedance was recorded at a residential property, the homeowner was notified of safety protocols. The treatment plant operated well within its legal capacity throughout the year, completing major well rehabilitation projects and utilizing sodium hypochlorite for disinfection.
Aaron Fuchs, a resident and curling club board member, highlighted the importance of local volunteerism. Fuchs expressed disappointment that the club’s requested upgrades—specifically cameras and monitors for spectators—were excluded from the current budget. Council members praised the club’s efforts and indicated a willingness to support the project if the club successfully secured external grants.
The Clerk presented administrative reports concerning the upcoming municipal elections. Council approved a policy restricting the use of corporate resources for campaign purposes to ensure transparent practices. Additionally, they passed a “lame duck” bylaw to delegate financial and staffing authority to the CAO during the election period if council turnover exceeds 75 percent.
The 2026 operating and capital budget was officially approved, resulting in a tax levy increase for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Council also reviewed the 2025 remuneration report, noting that total expenses for the year finished under the allotted budget.
In other community matters, Council passed motions to support the retention of locally elected school board trustees and authorized a bursary for a local high school graduate. They also agreed to support a military service recognition book through the Royal Canadian Legion. The meeting concluded as Council moved into a closed session to discuss personnel matters.
