The Terrace Bay Council met to address several municipal updates regarding utility rates, infrastructure planning, and community events.

Council approved an increase to the municipal water rates for the 2026 year. This adjustment was proposed to address a projected revenue shortfall and to ensure the continued operation of water pumping, treatment, and distribution services. The new rates will be applied retroactively from January 1, 2026.

A contract for engineering services was awarded to Hatch Engineering for the upcoming rehabilitation of Hudson Drive and Birch Crescent. The firm will be responsible for the planning, design, and construction oversight of the project. The bid was selected following a request for proposal (RFP) process that concluded at the end of March.

The annual residential spring clean-up has been scheduled for the week of May 9th through May 15th. During this period, residents are permitted to place waste at the curb for collection outside of the regular container limits. Additionally, the landfill site will be open and free of charge for residents during this week to encourage community beautification. To assist with lawn maintenance, Council also approved a temporary relief of a local bylaw to allow residents to deposit winter sand on the street for collection by the street sweeper.

The Thunder Bay Auto Sport Club received approval to use a portion of the former Terrace Bay Airport property for an autocross event in August. This event is a low-speed solo competition restricted to members and invited guests. The annual household hazardous waste day was also confirmed for May 9th at the Terrace Bay Information Centre parking lot. Residents can bring materials such as paints, batteries, and pressurized containers for safe disposal.

Council then adjourned for a 5 minute break before returning to a closed session for the remainder of the session.
