Students at the Schreiber Public School are stepping behind the camera to explore how technology has evolved, thanks to a new youth driven initiative launched in partnership with the Schreiber Media Centre and the Schreiber Public Library.
The project invites students from Grades 4 through 8 to examine the contrast between historical artifacts and modern technology through short film production. As Coral Pelto, the Librarian at the Schreiber Public School explains, students are gaining hands on experience with media creation while building essential digital literacy skills.
The initiative is designed to be student led, encouraging participants to take ownership of their work while fostering creativity and collaboration. From researching older technologies to planning, filming and editing their projects, students will be actively engaged in every stage of production.
The program highlights the growing importance of media literacy in today’s digital world, giving students practical tools to communicate ideas effectively through visual storytelling.
Organizers aim to complete the film by early June, with plans to premiere the final projects at the school’s year end celebration. The showcase will offer families and community members a chance to see how students are connecting the past and present through innovative storytelling.
